Summer, Santorini and internships

Wow, so it’s been a month since my last post. Thought I’d have a lot of time during my holidays to create a lot of interesting post but that hasn’t been the case at all.

I just got back from 37 degrees in Santorini (Greece) with my sister – If you haven’t been, go now! Needed to get away from the computer and do nothing but lay on the beach, read a book and eat great food.

Just before I went I had sent out applications for my internship. I only had one design studio here in Copenhagen that I wanted to join and the rest of my applications went to London. So I got an email from Mind Design in London that they would love to have me and the day after I got back from Santorini I got an email from Homework here in Copenhagen that they wanted me as well! Didn’t think I would be privileged enough to have more than one option. So I chose Homework and I can wait to start. Hopefully I’ll get the chance to come to London at another time

Almost every time I come across a great project when browsing Behance it’s by Anagrama. And this time as well. Don’t you just love these bright and vivid colors and how they’re used? (Bermellón is a Mexican candy confectionery shop and the bright colors are a reflection of the product’s extreme acid and spicy flavors)

Pasta Packaging / Bryan Ku

“Realizing that most people have a difficult time gauging how much pasta to cook. This is a fictional brand and packaging for pasta. The sustainable, cylindrical structures functions to help isolate the correct amount of pasta per serving while differentiating itself amongst its competition of sacks and boxes.

The caps double as a measuring device. The length of the caps are determined by the volumetric space of one serving size of any short-cut noodles.

Long noodles utilize an alternate mechanism within the cylinder. By rotating the upper half of the structure, the top of the package reveals an opening that allows exactly one serving size to pass through at a time.” Designed by Bryan Ku

Just found this font that I did last year. 5 criteria was set for it by rolling a dice. It was a 2-day school assignment and the first one using Fontlab.
The criteria: Light, condensed, big contrast, normal x-height and horizontal/vertical terminals. See bigger images here or here

The Gourmet Tea / Alan Chu

I am now officially on holiday! Finally! So it’s time to make up for neglecting my blog. So I thought I’d start by posting something colorful and the best way for that is to go to São Paulo, Brazil. So in one of their shopping centres architect Alan Chu designing this colorful pop-out store for The Gourmet Tea . It was inspired by the brand’s 35 brightly hued tea tins. And what a clever use of space! Wish we would see more installation shops like that!

Busy with my 2. year exam I’ve been neglecting my blog quite a bit (I’ll make it up to you during my summer holidays!). So I thought I’d give you some extra photos to look at today.

Mayfair’s famous Art Deco hotel Claridges got a fitting rebrand by Construct. They chose a sophisticated colour palette of jade, gold, white and black and beautiful architecturally inspired chevron patterns on the inside of bags, envelopes and pencils. A fitting visual expression and a beautiful job implementing the identity.

Design+Type+Berlin

Just got home from a week in Berlin with my class. Visited a few design studios: Edenpiekermann, Onlab, 44 Flavours, Mario Lombardo and Hort. Thursday, friday and saturday we sat down at Typo Berlin and listened to some talented speakers such as Jessica Hische and TwoPoints.Net. A great week full of inspiration so now I just have one exam project for the next three weeks and then summer holidays!

New logo / Maria Lyng

So I finally got around to do my own logo. I’m a huge fan of typefaces with big contrast and I think it fits perfectly with being a graphic designer as it it one of our main tasks in what we do. I’ve been a black/white girl for many years but during the last year I’ve grown more and more fond of adding color to my life. So I’ve been testing color combinations everyday for the past month and couldn’t seem to find the right one. Until today where my inspiration came from my outfit; a purple cardigan over a orange shirt with a dark grey illustration – the perfect combo – warm and welcoming! So there you have it my new logo with color
